If you find yourself in Syntagma Square and decide to walk around in the Plaka the best way to see it all is to find the Syntagma Sq. Post Office and take Nikis (Victory) street just behind it up to your left.  The P.O. is situated lower left as you stand with your back to the tomb of the Unknown Soldier out side the Parliament Building. The whole area is on a incline. Constitution Sq is big enough to get lost in - good land marks to suggest as rendezvous spots with people exist, such as the fountain in the center of the square which has some trees for shade and benches to wait on too. There are three subway-metro entrances and a handicapped elevator as well. The fountain isn't always on unfortunately however.

You wont see much as you go up drivable one way Nikis Street, the usual travel agencies, Compendium and Eleftheroudakis book stores, a couple of restaurants, shops and sundry such but as the top where the street levels out you will come to Kidatheneon street (above) where you turn right and enter the Plaka proper.

You will immediately notice the pedestrian nature of the pavement and start to see tourist type stores selling everything from icons to priapic statues and evil eye wards. The real concentration of these stores in on Adrianou and Hephaisteou Streets further on down the route towards Monastiraki Square, so wait before buying anything just yet.

Follow my route and you will pass through Friends of Music Sq (I call it the Cine Paris Sq. for brevity) where you may stop and have a refreshment at many cafes and restaurants or if its dark out partake of the open air cinema roof level of the Cine Paris.

Also check out Brettos liquor store/bar (above left) for a spheenaki (shot) or two of tsipouro to brace yourself for the grueling walk ahead. Or Buy the tin bottle of Ouzo for yourself - its about the best unless you make it yourself, as many do in Greece. See the Plaka links for more info?
