Ticket prices vary by speed of vessel and class of ticket and are extra and not included in listed hotel prices. Some island's have airports too so if you are on a tight schedule flying maybe an option but you have to let us know well in advance for summer flight reservations.

Greece Hotels: Athens and the Greek Islands

There are several ways to visit Greece but mostly they boil down to two: Time in Athens or no time in Athens. Of course its possible to land at Athens International Airport (ATH) and go directly to Piraeus or Rafina and catch a ferry if you arrive at such a time as to make your ferry boat connection possible.

For major Greek Islands like Crete, Mykonos and Santorini, ferries boats usually depart Athens port of Piraeus or Rafina in the morning and in the evening so you have more leeway.

If, for example, your plane gets in at 5 a.m. you could possibly make the 8 a.m. boat to Crete, Mykonos or Santorini depending on various factors; if your flight is on time, if there are not huge crowds at the airport waiting to clear customs and passport control, if there is room on the bus for you and your luggage or if after waiting in a long line in the hot sun you find a taxi, but what if your flight arrives at 5 p.m.? Odds are you will not make the 6pm boat to Crete.
