Ares God of War

Who's Who Greek Myth: Ares God of War

The god of war was the only legitimate son of Zeus and Hera. Zeus asserted that Ares was most hateful of his many children. Though his sister Athena was in part a goddess of war, she represented a wisdom in the military realm, whereas Ares embodied the madness and fury of war.

Ares fought on the side of Trojans in the Trojan War and was wounded in that war by Athena. The offspring of Ares in his illicit affair with Aphrodite were the pair Deimos and Phobos, who accompanied their father in war.
